To accurately diagnose your medical condition, our providers may remove a small sample of skin, hair or nail. Dermatopathology refers to the examination of these samples under the microscope. Our providers have received extensive training in dermatopathology and reviews all biopsies herself. In more challenging cases, the biopsies are forwarded to dermatopathology specialists at either Mercy or OHSU.

All samples must be prepared in a laboratory before being examined by our providers. In most cases, Mercy Lab prepares our specimens. We also work with Quest Laboratories, CTA Lab and OHSU if the specimen requires preparation outside of Mercy. Please note there is a separate charge billed to insurance from the processing lab.
